We enrol children from all over the Parish in our Early Start Pre-School and we believe it is a great introduction to school life. In Early Start children are taught by a qualified teacher and a full-time Child Care Assistant, which is a part of our ECCE scheme. Children must be 3 years of age by the 1st of September.
We operate four groups altogether with each group having a maximum of 15 children and two adults. This ensures that each child gets a significant amount of teacher contact time. We have large spacious rooms and an abundance of equipment to ensure that each child is appropriately motivated and stimulated to learn through various themes and topics throughout the day.
Research suggests that we learn through play. In our Early Start class, we concentrate on key areas such as language development, social skills and fine motor progress. We actively engage in early maths and reading activities to promote attitude towards literacy and numeracy, as well as develop children’s ability in these areas. The benefits of being linked with the Senior School is our ability to make use of the PE hall and other school facilities.
The Early Start Pre-School provides your child with a great start to school life and education. It will help them integrate into Junior Infants in the following year through routines, social and academic development and our close links with the Junior School HSCL.
